A few steps from here to your first conversation.

If you can download a file and make a folder, you can do this. You only do it once.

• A paid Claude plan. GhostWriter runs inside Claude, the AI assistant made by Anthropic. Pro is enough.
• The Claude app on your Mac or Windows computer. Setup happens on that computer.
• Your copy of GhostWriter. $29.99 at launch, paid once, with every update included. You buy it in this setup, or use a code if you were given one.

Get Claude on your computer.

Claude is made by Anthropic, and you pay them directly for it. It is separate from GhostWriter, which you get in the next step.

1. Go to claude.ai and create an account.
2. Choose a paid plan. Pro is enough. See Claude's plans
3. Download the Claude app from claude.com/download and install it. Mac (macOS 11 or newer) or Windows (10 or newer).
4. Open the app and sign in with the account you just made.

Get your copy.

Add the plugin to Claude.

The plugin is one small file. It teaches Claude how to work with you on your book.

1. Press the button above. A file named ghostwriter-muse.plugin lands in your Downloads folder. Leave it as it is: it is not meant to be opened by double-clicking.
2. In the Claude app, click Customize in the sidebar on the left.
3. Click Plugins, then Add, then Upload plugin.
4. Choose the file you just downloaded. When it is done, GhostWriter & the Muse shows in your list of plugins.

Connect it with your private connection link.

This link is what makes the copy yours. Claude uses it to fetch your ghostwriter's instructions, always the newest, at the start of every conversation.

1. Press Copy my link above.
2. In the Claude app, click Customize, then Connectors.
3. Click + to add one, then Add custom connector.
4. For the name, type GhostWriter. In the address box, paste your link. Click Continue. It will say no sign-in is needed. That is right: your link is your key.
5. Click Add.
6. Find GhostWriter in your list of connectors and click Connect. It connects in a moment. There is nothing to sign in to.
7. Once it is connected, open the GhostWriter connector. It lists three tools. Change each one from Needs approval to Always allow. All three only read your ghostwriter's instructions. If you skip this, Claude asks your permission each time, which also works.

Make a folder for your book.

Your whole book lives in this folder, on your own computer, as plain files you can open and back up. Nothing is locked inside an app.

1. Create a new, empty folder on your computer, somewhere that is backed up. A folder inside iCloud Drive works well, and so does any folder your computer already backs up. Your book is never stored with us, so this is your safety copy.
2. Name it after your book, or simply My Book. One folder per book. Use a new one for each book you write.

Start your book.

Two choices in Claude, then one sentence from you.

1. In the Claude app, start a new conversation. Just under the box where you type, click Project or folder.
2. At the bottom of the list, click Add folder and choose your book folder. This is the step people miss. Without the folder, Claude has nowhere to save your book.
3. Next to the send button, click the model name and choose Opus. We tested Claude's models on book work, and Opus was the most careful with an author's facts and words. Any model works, and you can change it at any time.
4. Say this, and add a sentence about what your book is about. Type it, or press the microphone and say it out loud.

It introduces itself, asks you for one thing, and opens your book's pages beside the conversation. From now on you talk, you write, or both: every word stays yours to change.

• Coming back another day? Open the Claude app, click Project or folder, choose your book folder, and say: Open my book.
• Keep the Claude app open on your computer while you work, so your ghostwriter can reach your book.
• Choose Opus when you can. It is the model we recommend for book work. It uses your Claude plan faster than Sonnet, so the choice is yours, and your ghostwriter works on either.
• Updates. GhostWriter checks for its latest instructions when you start a conversation. The version shows at the top of your book's pages, and if the pages have a change waiting, say "update my pages".
• Lost? Ask your ghostwriter "Where are we?" It always knows the next step.
